Early Childhood Newsletter 3.25.2024

عزيزي PCS الأسر،

We hope that you had a wonderful Spring Break and were able to enjoy some time with your families!  We are ready to get back into the swing of things and make our final push through the rest of the school year.  We are going to blink and summer will be here before we know it!

We did have some exciting things happening in 1st grade before we left for break and we wanted to make sure we highlighted those celebrations with you!  Our 1st grade students showcased their artwork from their latest PBL unit.  They created art inspired by shapes around them in 2D and 3D.  We were so impressed with their Art of Shapes Museum and loved the turn out by so many families that came to see their art displayed all over the building.  Some of their art will be displayed at Carolyn Lewis Designs Studio! We are excited to share their art work with the STL community!  Their work will be on display March 27th-30th. Go and check it out!

1st grade also celebrated the 120th day of school!  It is such a joy to see our kids celebrate all of their hard work.  They truly are ROCK STARS!!!

PCS Multicultural Fair:

The Annual PCS Multicultural Fair will be held April 25.  We wanted to share more about the MCF from a Middle Schooler Mairin Frei.

The Multicultural Fair

By Mairin Frei

Introduction:

I have always loved the multicultural cultural fair. We would get to learn about different cultures, religions, and do different activities! Plus, me hanging out with my friends while learning is so fun! This is why I want to talk about the multicultural fair. Which is coming up soon in a few weeks. We get to do all of the things I just said. Plus, trying new foods! So today we are going to talk about the new t-shirt design, what activities there are going to be, and when it is.

T-Shirt Design:

First off, we are going to talk about the T-shirt design. The person who made it, and won, was Claire Smith ( One of my great friends and a fellow newspaper peer ). The picture above is what the T-shirt design is going to be this year. It is people of different cultures holding hands in a circle shape.

With a pattern of different people. To empathize with the kaleidoscope theme. Lets now interview the winner, Claire Smith.

Mairin: “Hey Claire!”

Claire: “Hi Mairin!”

Mairin: “How did you feel about winning?”

Claire: “I felt pretty good. It was pretty exciting to hear that I won.And my parents were so excited, they freaked out!”

Mairin: “That sounds funny. Ok. Next question, how did you think of the design?”

Claire: “When I think about the kaleidoscope of cultures I think about looking through a kaleidoscope, I think of all the different cultures.

Mairin: “That's a good way to look at it. Another question is why did you enter the contest for the T-shirt design?”

Claire: “I entered because I didn’t think I would win, I did it just for fun. But by the time I was done drawing for it, I got really excited.”

Mairin: “Well I am glad you did. One last question. Are you excited to see your design on a T-shirt?”

Claire: “I am very excited. Because the whole school is going to be wearing my design. And I think it's a very big accomplishment for me, because it has never happened to me before.”

Mairin: “Well thank you Claire.”

Claire: “You're welcome. And thank you for interviewing me.”

Thank you so much Claire. Congratulations! I bet I would be excited to win the T-shirt design  too. So this is the design this year.

Activities:

Another thing is the activities this year. I will give potential things that may happen. For example, the fruits. Every year, in the elementary cafeteria, they give you plenty of fruits to try. Like kumquats. They are tiny looking oranges that taste really sour! At the beginning of the day, we will have our pep rally. People will be coming to show different types of dancing as well. With the fashion show. Kids will dress up in different types of cultural clothes. Like a friend of mine dressed up in German types of clothes one year. With a yellow shirt and a green skirt with straps. Plus, we will do a flag drop. In the courtyard, on the high pathway, will drop different types of flags from different countries. Another one is henna tattoo. Henna is made of dried leaves or henna shrubs. When you put it on your hand, you make different patterns, and it looks amazing! One last one I will talk about is the drum show. Like in the name, they play drums for you. It sounds marvelously good.

When it is:

Lastly, we will talk about when this fair is. When the multicultural fair is, is April 25. This will last for six hours of fun. From nine o’clock to three o’clock. This event will be all over school. Not just EC, middle school, or elementary. It will be everywhere! So make sure to bring a water bottle with you. I think this is a great day to do it because we will be doing map testing soon. It's good to have a fun day while having M.A.P testing soon.

The Conclusion:

So in conclusion, this year's multicultural fair is going to be a great one. With the activities, the cool new T-shirt design, and when it is ( Near M.A.P testing, that's a great time to have a break ). As I conclude, I hope this article made you excited for the fair. If you want to contribute to the fair, ask a teacher for information. Have a good day and thank you for reading the Eagle Press.
