Middle School Newsletter 10.23.2023
I can’t believe we are wrapping up the first quarter. On one hand it feels like time flew by yet on the other it feels as if this year quarter 1 was exceptionally long. Regardless, I am excited to see many of you this week when you are in the building for your child’s conference. Conferences are the perfect opportunity to see some of the successes your child is having in school.
In middle school we are excited to introduce Student Led Conferences to you. We understand that this format would provide students with an opportunity to share their learning experiences with their parents. Our hope is that over time, these conferences will provide opportunities for an increase in internal motivation and an increased ownership over their learning.
Students have been choosing pieces of work that they would like to highlight during their conference. It is critical that they have a voice in this process as it is all about their learning and what's important to them. When students are provided with time to reflect, you would be surprised that they don’t always choose their best work. They'll include places where they struggled, places where they improved, and places where they need help. This process took time and guidance from their teachers.
Teachers are eager to share this experience with you as your child shares their performance during the first quarter. We also look forward to our continued partnering with you for the remainder of the year. Once again, thank you for entrusting us to provide the very best education possible for your child.
I hope each of you have a wonderful week and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns or questions.

Drop Off Reminder:
Now that we are a few weeks into the school year, we wanted to reiterate that our morning drop off process does not begin until 8:00 am. Our morning duty staff are not outside to supervise drop off until 8:00 am. In the interest of student safety, please do not leave your child(ren) unsupervised before morning duty begins.
We recently revised our late pick up policy because of an increase in students being picked up after our dismissal ends at 3:35. We also have a significant number of unsupervised children in the morning and would like to avoid an additional revision of our drop off/pick up policy. We appreciate your support in this matter as we work to keep all of our students safe.
Board Meeting and Parent Reception:
Next Monday, October 30th at 6:30pm is the Board Meeting and Parent Reception. Parents should arrive at Building C and the reception is expected to be in the courtyard (weather permitting).
Fall Family Survey:
At PCS, we are all about growth. We love being a part of our students' growth as they go from kindergarteners just finding their way in the world to curious, empowered middle schoolers ready to take on whatever challenges life holds.
As a school, we constantly strive for growth as well. And the best resource we have to support our ongoing growth as a school is you and your children.
This week we are going to be asking our 3rd through 8th grade students for their input and feedback through our annual fall student surveys. We would also love to hear from you. This link will take you to our fall family survey. Please take a few minutes and give us your feedback. We will use what we learn from you as we continually strive to better meet the needs of our students and families. You can contact Dr. Schrimpf at mschrimpf@premiercharterschool.org with any questions
