Elementary School Newsletter September 26th 2022

Teachers were working hard on Friday during our professional development day. They spent time digging into our new math series, worked on project based learning units, and collaborated within and across grade levels to ensure that we are continuing to provide and improve on top quality instruction. We look forward to working on our own growth so that we can support the growth within our students!

Important Reminders

  • Our main goal is to keep our students safe. We need our families to help us with this goal by not dropping off your kids before 8:00 in the morning. This is very important. We do not have staff standing outside to watch children at this time so they are unattended. Accidents happen and kids are kids! Please do not drop off kids on school grounds until our 8:00-8:15 arrival window when we do have staff outside to support our student entry. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please reach out to me directly.

  • We are also asking families to give their hugs and kisses outside of the building and let the kids enter on their own. Again, we have a lot of little bodies entering the building all at the same time and we are trying to reduce traffic so that our kids can come in, get breakfast as needed, and head to their class in a timely manner.

Ms. Linda

Over the next few weeks, we will be profiling some of our staff in the Elementary Building so that you can get to know some of the folks that get to work with your children day in and day out.

Hi! I’m Linda DeSmet, your Elementary School Front Desk Receptionist. I began my early career in teaching as a Remedial Reading Specialist. After being a stay-at-home mom for a few years and then receiving my Master’s degree in Gerontology, I transitioned to working in the field of aging and Alzheimer’s and dementia for 25 years.

I am happy to be back working with children again. Whether it’s working with children or older adults I enjoy making relationships, building trust and loving well. It is a pleasure to be a grandma like figure to the students. Their hugs make my day! Outside of school I enjoy reading, cooking, playing the piano and spending time with my four grandchildren.
