Early Childhood Newsletter March 28th 20022

عزيزي PCS الأسر،

We hope that everyone had a wonderful Spring Break!  We hope you were able to take some time with your family to do something fun or just enjoy some quality time.  We are ready to be back and finish this last quarter of the year strong!  Our teachers have been working hard to create fun and engaging lessons to continue to push our students' learning.

We also have some exciting news to share with an addition to our campus!  We now have chickens located behind the Early Childhood Building!  Sarah Sanchez, one of our teachers, has connected us with this amazing opportunity.  Here are some of the benefits that Sarah has shared about the having chickens:

Chickens provide a sustainable source of food and give many opportunities for students to learn from and interact with livestock, something many students have never experienced. Chickens are social creatures that provide ample learning opportunities for people of all ages. Chickens also have the added benefit of providing nutrient rich compostable materials that can sustain the PCS garden. Learning where our food comes from is only the tip of the iceberg for learning experiences! According to the Department of Health of the District of Columbia, “Chickens often attract students that are otherwise not interested in gardening and generate excitement among the entire school community. Additionally, chickens provide students with an opportunity to better understand how to properly care for and establish a positive relationship with animals.”

Please check out these last few reminders that have been in our newsletter for the last few weeks.  The deadlines are closing on these items.

This is for all parents that have kids receiving special education services at PCS -

Dear Parents,

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education values the opinions of all parents in Missouri’s schools. We would appreciate you taking the time to respond to this brief survey about the special education services your child receives. This survey is confidential; your individual responses are not shared with the school district or anyone else. Only a summary of all responses is provided to school districts in order to help all schools improve education for our children.

You may complete this survey online.  Please complete by March 31

Thank you very much for providing your input. (1) Online: Go to http://spec.education/ and enter the following Access Code: JUJYHA

Father Daughter Night -

Face Covering Update:

Now that we have returned from Spring Break, face coverings are optional in all Premier Charter School buildings.  This is a decision that was made after very careful analysis of updated guidance from the CDC, the St. Louis City Department of Health, and most importantly, our ongoing evaluation of our own COVID case data.  As seen below, we have had 7 total COVID positive cases over the last 4 weeks and as such, feel confident that our data supports this decision.

Moving forward, we want to ensure that we support all students, staff and families in their decisions regarding face coverings.  This is an excellent opportunity to talk to your child(ren) about respecting the decisions of others.  Also, please keep in mind that we offer virtual learning to all students through our partnership with the Missouri MOCAP program.  If you are interested in transitioning to MOCAP as a result of this decision, you can contact your child(ren)’s principal for more information.

If there is a “COVID-19 outbreak” at a school, as defined below, masks will be required for a temporary period of time at that school or building. The goal is to limit additional spread during an outbreak, protect the health and safety of students and staff, and avoid having to close the school. Therefore, masks will be required for all individuals in the school building for two weeks (14 calendar days) once the positivity rate reaches the threshold noted below. If after two weeks, the building’s positivity rate is below the threshold noted below, then masks will once again become optional. However, if the positivity rate for the building remains at or above the threshold defined below, then all individuals in the building will be required to wear face masks for an additional week or until the school building’s positivity rate is below the threshold noted below.

An outbreak in a school is defined as: 2% or more of the student population tests positive for COVID-19 at a given time. We will continue to monitor health conditions of teachers and staff and include this information on our weekly principal newsletters.

PCS is committed to the health and safety of all members of the school community.  As a result, if there is a significant spike in COVID positive cases, even if we do not reach the 2% threshold, we may make the decision to temporarily reinstate face coverings as described above.
